Anti Bias and Intercultural Learning in Context of Youth Work and Informal Education
MINUTES FROM THE MEETING
RELATED TO THE YOUTH ENCOUNTERS

THE DATE OF THE YOUTH ENCOUNTER
The dates for the Youth Encounter that should be organized in Croatia and Italy are:

in Croatia from 17 – 22 July, 2008

in Italy from 23 – 27 July, 2008
-
German group needs to confirm can German participants leave a school one day earlier
-
Italian group needs to confirm these dates since they have already made reservation with the hosting facilities, and they have to check is it going to be possible to change the dates since in summer time in Italy is very crowded. These dates are not final until the Italian members of the team do not confirm them.

PARTICIPANTS
As agreed in September 2007, participants will be from the age of 14 to 18. Number of participants in each country will be 8, plus 2 team members.

CRITERIA FOR SELECTION
-
Knowledge of English language; Italian coordinator stated that this might me a problem in their group but they are looking for solution to resolve it; it is concluded that at least 3-4 participants must have at least basic skills in English language

Polish group asked would it be possible to have participants who do not know each other from before, but German and Croatian coordinators said that they are coming from small communities and it would be very difficult to have children who do not know each other from before.

It is agreed that participants in the Youth Encounter will be those who had previously participated in other projects of partner organization.

Gender equality – it is recommended to have equal number of boys and girls in each group, although so far only girls have applied for participation in the project.

Until now, German group have 4 participants, and Polish group have 5 participants.

TRAVELING DOCUMENTS

Croatian coordinator will check if minors from EU countries can enter Republic of Croatia only with ID card, or they must have passport.

Every coordinator will have the list of participants that would include name, family name, address, date of birth, contact number, name and contact number of parents

When all groups meet a joint list of participants will be created.

Special list of all coordinators, and their contact numbers, including address and phone number of host organization and hotel will be created and delivered to the parents.

The end of April is a dead-line for the list of participants and for the team members.

It is recommended to have additional health insurance for all participants.
-
It is recommended that for pocket money children to Croatia bring from 30-50 euro and around 50 euro for Italy.
The prices are:

Cinema: 7 euro Cinema: 3 euro
Swimming: sea swimming: 2 euro (or river Danube)
Bus ticket: 1 euro for 2 hours Bus ticket: 1 euro
Coca-Cola: 1, 20 euro Coca-Cola: 1 euro
Ice-cream: 1, 50 euro Ice-cream: from 0, 50 to 2 euro

HEALTH INFRASTRUCTURE
Polish group wanted to know about health conditions in Vukovar:
-
Vukovar has city hospital that was reconstructed after war (in last 2-3 years), that is 15 minutes walk from Hotel Danube and VIMIO
-
Pharmacy in 10 min walk from Hotel Danube and VIMIO
-
There are no need to have additional vaccination because there are no special diseases in Croatia
-
Additional health insurance is recommended because Croatian health system will not cover the costs of foreigners.

RULES FOR CHILDREN
-
Personal belongings are your own responsibility (handy, camera, watches, jewelry)
-
Alcohol is absolutely out of question and forbidden.
-
It is forbidden to smoke in all premises of partner organization, during workshops or other project activities, in hotel and in hotel rooms.
-
No alcohol for team members in front of the children.
-
For free time in the city Number 3 rule applies (Scout rule) – if one gets injured, second one is staying with him/her, and the third one gets help.
-
Free time will be stated in the program of the Youth Encounter.

Children should have enough money on their cellular/handy account.
-
Bed time is at 23, 00.
-
Children must participate in all project activities.
-
The parents and children should be warned about security measures at the airport.
If the rules are broken: Parents will be informed about the incident, school will be informed in written form, and child will be expelled for this and all other programs.

PREPARATION MEETING
Preparation meeting will be organized, if RAA Brandenburg gets funding, in Vukovar, Croatia, from 22 to 25 May, 2008.
For the preparation meeting two persons from each partner organization will come – one team leader and one child.
During preparation meeting program of the Youth Encounter will be finalized.
